Biography

First discovered in 1998 at the age of eight, Saina Nehwal has made her mark in the sport of badminton. Saina broke out on both the national and international stage in 2008 when she defeated the world’s 6th ranked player and reached the quarterfinals at the summer Olympics in Beijing, China. She created history by becoming the first Indian woman to win a Grand Prix Gold event, and reached the semifinals of the Badminton World Masters, becoming the first Indian to do so. In addition, the Badminton World’s Federation named her Most Promising Player of 2008. Saina is currently ranked number three in the world.
